Is this a rare Muncie Tailhousing

I purchased a '64 Munice on EBAY and !SURPRISE! the "drop it in an go rowing" transmission was a mess. Bubba had cracked the reverse shift shaft boss on the tailhousing so I thought was junk. Since I can't seem to throw parts in the trash, I decided to put the tailhousing on EBAY.

Why would someone pay $40+ for a cracked part requiring aluminum repairs?

    my auction:

    Is this particular piece rare?

    Thanks,
    brian

One of the two most common T/H, used on Chevy & Corvette in '64 and Pontiac into the '70s.

      Is dirt common?
The crack would be TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO easy to repair by someone who is very experienced at welding alum.

        Brian-----

As Bill and Tom have mentioned, this is not a particularly rare piece and it's certainly not a unique-to-Corvette item. The one in the picture is a "wide rib" version used from late 1964 to early 1965.

Other than the crack, the housing looks to be in pretty decent condition and, as Tom mentioned, this sort of crack could be easily repaired. The crack was caused by someone trying to drive out the pin from the wrong direction----a VERY common cause for this often-observed problem. The hole and the pin are TAPERED and the pin can only be removed from one direction. Very often a "klutz" mechanic will fail to recognize that.

I'd say the tailhousing is worth about what you got for it.
