    Head Numbers, L-82 ??

I recently removed incorrect heads from my car. Replaced with correct,
original heads. I believe the heads I removed are from an L-82, any help appreciated.

Numbers are: ( and this is the best I could make them out due to the amount of 3's,6's,8's and 9's....) wow, do they look alike even with bright lights on them. But, I was able to see the small cut at certain areas in the numbers.

"3986336". I believe that is what the numbers read. Also written is GM1 and GM2. Dates are L-15 on one head, and L-18 on the other one.

Could someone supply me with correct L-82 head numbers, maybe I am one number off. Or verify the numbers I gave.
Also, do these heads have that much value ? Not looking to make top $$ on them, just sell for reasonable money to someone who needs them.

    Thanks in advance.

    Mark----

There was no cylinder head of GM casting #3986336. The cylinder head casting number which is closest to the number you provided is "3986339". That cylinder head was a small valve (1.72" intake) used for some low performance 1971 applications, but no Corvette applications. That cylinder head would be pretty much worthless. This head has a "square on top of rectangle" casting symbol on the ends of the head.

The only other number which would somewhat "fit" what you describe is the GM #3998993 cylinder head. This head was used for many 1972 and 1973 applications including 1972 Corvette L-48. This head has a "flattened top pyramid" casting symbol on the ends.

You can verify which of the above by measuring the intake valve size and/or observing the casting symbols on the ends of the head.

      Thanks Joe,

Appreciate your response. I forgot to add that the ends have a casting symbol of a single, shorter line going up about an inch or a little longer in the middle of the end. They definately don't have a square on top of a rectangle, or the pyramid.

Maybe I have the numbers all wrong, but even with the incorrect numbers, it doesn't sound like these heads are Vette worthy.

They were on a 70 LT1, for easier driveability purposes only. The original and correct "double humpers" are now on the car....for better driveability !
