Hi,
I'm just about to complete the rolling chassis stage of a restoration of a 64 Roadster. The original gas tank I have has a number of small dents in the bottom that are unattractive and one small soldered repair that looks to have been fairly well done. It has the rounded depressions on the centre of each side of the tank and the OL Anderson logo.
I also have another tank with the GM sticker on it, part number 3967746. This tank has the OL Anderson logo and longer more rectangular depressions at the centre of each side of the tank. This tank is in better shape than the original tank and is listed apparently in GM parts books as fitting 1963 - 1970 Corvette (specifically lists 63-67).
Question is - which tank should I use for a correct restoration? Is the 3967746 tank with the rectangular depressions considered incorrect for a 64? Both tanks are clean and look good on the inside. I suppose the dents in the original tank might be covered by the spare tire carrier, but the 3967746 tank just seems in overall better shape.
Thanks in advance.
Lawrence
