    C1: Distributor and generator maintenance

    Hi all,

To lubricate the distributor and generator do I just have to squeeze some 10W40 into the lubrication pipe/hole (with the cap on it)? How often should I perform this task?

    greetings,
    Rob.

If you do overfill expect lots of nice clean oil around the generator area in a nice pattern:) (hood, etc.)

        Rob,
Almost every generator out there has been converted to sealed bearings years ago. Putting oil in one of these will just cause oil to run into your generator.
Someday, when you are bored and don't have anything else to do, pull your end plates off you generator and see if they are open or sealed bearings. If they are open, then pop the couple of bucks for new, sealed bearings (available at any bearing house", and never have to worry about that generator again.

        Regards, John McGraw

            Does Pirkle use sealed bearings?

I recall that he does but can't say for sure. He rebuilt mine but I haven't "fired" it up yet.

              Yes
              John does use sealed bearings
He includes a note in the box - not to oil the cups
What I was trying to say without plugging vendors.
(he does nice work by the way )
