    BODY MOUNTS ARE NOT SEXY

My mid-year sits lower on the rear passinger side so after close examination I noticed the body mounts on the driver side behind the rear quarter pannel has 4 shims and the passinger side have none. My question to all learned body people is this:

    1. do you need to lift the frame to remove the rear body mount?

    2. can you remove the shims without supporting the body?

    3. do you need at least one shim?

    4. what is the proper height of a mid-year rear?

    any and all help needed

    jay,

I'm not so sure that body mounts are your problem for a low rear position. It is possible for no shims to be located at a particular body mount position. Instead, I would look for another reason such as a worn spring or other suspension component.

Re: That would be especially true......

...if the car has not gone through a full restoration. I agree with Tony. Unless someone has messed up the shimming during a complete restoration then more than likely the problem is elsewhere. TBarr #24014

The rear spring link cushions compress and harden with time. Usually this make the entire rear low rather than one side, but you should chech them. They are still available from GM and other sources and are easy to change. They will also excorcise the ride harshness than develops with compressed cushions.
