    '66 GAS PEDAL

    HI GUYS.....JUST REMOVED MY OLD CARPET AND PUT THE NEW ONE IN.....TRIED TO SCREW IN THE TWO SCREWS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE RUBBER GAS PEDAL AND THEY WOULD GO IN...PULLED THE NEW CARPET BACK AGAIN AND FOUND THE THE HOLE WAS BIGGER NOW AND IT WAS FIBERGLASS THAT I WAS GOING THROUGH...IS THIS NORMAL..ISNT THERE SUPPOSE TO BE A PLATE OR SOMETHING THAT THESE TWO SCREWS GO INTO...HELP!!!! AND THANKS

    Look under the car, there should be a metal plate/bracket riveted to the underbody at the leading edge of the drivers side floor plan. If it's not there look on the floor of your garage it might have fallen off when you unscrewed the gas pedal. This bracket is used to attach the left hand inner splash shield and it is tapped for the two accelerator pedal screws. If it is gone the GM part number is 3846938, but I seriously doubt your local Chevy dealer will have it. No problem give Corvette Central a call and order part number 302207, L.H. Inner Splash Shield/Gas Pedal Nut Plate Mount Bracket, It's $9.45. Good Luck.
