REAL Differences Between Ionia And St Louis Bodies
Re: REAL Differences Between Ionia And St Louis Bo
Wayne,
I see what you mean but wait until you see the pic I just took of my 66. The edge of the hole is sharp as a knife and circular marks can be seen down in the hole. If the hole was molded in, the edge wouldn't be at all sharp and the typical fiberglass texture would be on the edge and in the hole. It's original paint so what we see is what it is. Hope I can post it.

Difficult to see but the edge of the hole is perfectly round and sharp. I don't think it would be that way if this was molded in the glass. It would show the same grainy texture as the other areas around the hole.
Re: REAL Differences Between Ionia And St Louis Bo
It would certainly make more sense to have the dimple in the original mold and the pic of the one on your car would seem to back that up but the one on my car definitely shows that this one was done after the part was formed. I don't know the answer. I always thought it was in the original mold but after close inspection of this one, I have to wonder if there's yet another variation. Some with cast in holes, some with drilled holes and some with no holes at all.
Tomorrow, with better light, I'll try to get a few more pic's.

Yes, It does look like it and come to think of it, I believe the NOS one that I installed on a car this winter had one too. This would indicate that they were molded, unless they were parts that were at the factory and returned for service.
