Tony
Don't know which issue it was in but I have article in the Maintenace Encyclopedia. If you can't find it let me know and I will send you a copy. I also looked in the 74-92 Index of Articles and did not find it there. Hope this helps

Re: Help needed to find article in Restorer
There is an article in the Fall, 1992 issue titled Delco Remy Distributor, Coils, and Related Parts, 1962-1974 by Roger Gibson. The paragraph you might be looking for may be this one:
The ballast resistor should be the natural white color of the ceramic. The retaining band should have Delco-Remy stamped in the area of the screw hole. The band should be plated in silver zinc. There usually is a color code on the resistor somewhere. For example, 1963 Chevrolet special high-performance and dual point applications used a resistor with 0.3-ohms resistance marked with a black dot. The regular applicationsused a resistor with 1.8-ohms resistance marked with a blue stripe. Both marks were applied with a felt marker, not paint. Most of the time, this information can be found in the parts manual.- Top

Re: Help needed to find article in Restorer
Thanks Guys,
Dick, that was the article that I could not find when looking through my back issues. Because I could not remember a title or author, I was having trouble.
Tim, I did not remember that article and although not what I was looking for it has some information that pertained to what I am looking at.
Terry, thank you for your efforts to help me find this article.
I have a box of ballast resistors and I am trying to find a compatible resistor for my 59 FI car. I had remembered that someone was having trouble starting their FI and it was pointed out that the resistors were different. Now to check the boxes contents. I hope that I have what I need in the box.
Thank you all.- Top

Remember...
the ballast resistor is switched OUT of the ignition circuit via the wiring harness durning cranking to provide full spark voltage to the coil. So, IF the wiring harness is intact, the exact value of the ballast resistor (nominally 1.8 ohms for '087/202 coils and 0.3 ohms for '091 coils) means nothing in terms of initial engine fire....- Top
