Transmission Tag

I have just started a 1963 340HP restoration project. I have the following information on the transmission: Main case: 3831704 and tail case: 3831731 which my reference materials list as the correct transmission for a late 1963 Corvette. I cannot reference the side cover tag number of: 3831815. Any information on this tag number would be appreciated.

Ray,
I checked page 126 of the new CC catalog and the number doesn't appear? I also checked the Corvette Retso Guide 1963-1967 and it isn't in there either. Mine shows up as a match for Muncie WR 300/350/390hp 1967, which is good for my 67 300hp coupe.

All that I can tell you about GM #3831815 is that it was a PRODUCTION-only part number for a 1963 Muncie transmission.

It means that it was a part used in PRODUCTION but was never available in SERVICE. There were other part numbers available in SERVICE to replace this part, but you couldn't buy this, particular part number.
