    C2 conv vent window

On c2 roadsters there is a vent window upper rubber stop. It attaches to the window frame with a 1/2" long flat head screw (#10?) . I cannot get mine to stay in and assume the thread is stripped. Any secret tricks to this repair?
I was going to try a slightly longer and larger metric screw to see if it would self tap.

Since no one else answered I'll give it a try. I had the same problem on my 63. I found a self tapping screw the nest size larger and used that. The purest in the group might not like the result but I couldn't come up with a better way. And once installed I don't think anyone could tell.

      Randy,

Your post doesn't say if you have the vent frame in or out of the car. In order to repair it properly the vent frame would have to be out of the car. The proper fix would be to go to an auto parts store and order a helicoil kit. I just did mine because my chrome plate shop ran a 10-32 tap into one of my frames after they plated it. I'm lucky they only felt it necessary to clean the threads on one frame. The original screws are 8-32. The helicoil kit comes with a special tap that is larger in diameter then the 10-32 thread that was tapped by the plater. The helicoils are easy to install and work great. Cost of the kit is about $35. However, I don't believe that this will work as an "on the car" repair because you would be drilling and tapping through the front window channel and would make the hole to large for the 8-32 screw head to retain it.
