    61 Wiper mechanism

    Hi Guys,

I was just reading through Noland's book and came accros a Chevrolet release for 61 vettes which among other stuff notes a new arm mechanism which replaces the cable system.

I've only seen and heard disscussions of the cable system on all C-1's so was there a replacement system introduced for the 61 and later cars or was this an abandoned plan by chevrolet.

    Thanks, Mark.

    Mark,
Nope, all Corvettes 58 through 62 used the same system. There is an aftermarket system out there that replaces the wiper setup with a motor inside the car and a much more rigid drive system. I have used one on my 59 resto-rod and were real pleased with it.

          John...

Where did you purchase the aftermarket replacement system?

            Dennis,
Mine was made by Specialty Power Windows in Georgia. It is the same system that CC sells, but is a little less expensive. I mounted the motor behind the passenger side kick panel. It really works smooth and quiet, and frees up a lot of space under the dash and on the firewall. it uses a push-pull setup inside a bendable conduit that drives gears on each wiper transmission A great addition for anyone building a resto-rod. I also used their power window kit, and it is a dead knockoff of the original system. with the addition of the correct switches and a conduits, I am sure that it would pass flight judging with ease, especially since all the guts are hidden in the door.

            Regards, John McGraw
