64L Frame Gussets - part 2

Hi,

I posted a while back about when frame gussets got added to 64 frames - I'm using a mid 64 replacement frame for a late 64 restoration - and got a quick answer.

Part 2 - I ordered gussets from Corvette Central and received them. My question this time is how were they installed at the factory? With the bottom of frame gusset flush with bottom of frame? With bottom of frame gusset slightly recessed to bottom of frame? Or bottom of gusset butting up to and overlapping bottom of frame? If the last situation, how much overlap?

Lawrence, I just went through that. My 64 frame had holes in it at the gusset areas as well. They were welded flush to bottom of frame and cross member. My frame was sandblasted and we replaced the cross member at the kickups, and 24inches, or just in front transmission cross member. The rest of the frame was ok. We could still read the #'s on the kickup. They stamped your build # twice on the drivers side.

Thanks Dan - I can now install the gussets properly. I wanted to position it correctly as I will install the 64L body mounts that mount to the gusset and wanted to have it the proper height.
