1954 trunk lock

Could anyone advise me how to open the trunk on a 54 when the key turns but it won't open. It made a noise like something come loose then quit working. How do you get to latch inside.

No way that I can think of. But if it were me I would pray the key assy front bezel off , that would allow the inside assy to fall out , then using some thing long that would replace the key extension to un-locks it. As a last resort drill the key housing back out to reach the latch. The housing is the same as many early GM's.
I think the key long flat extension spring may have fallen off.
Then if you need another key housing I have one you can have.
