63 L-76 water pump

I need to replace/repair this pump. 1)The judging manual states that casting dates were not yet in use and the casting # is 3859326. My pump has a bypass fitting and the car is a late 63.The manual further cites an early casting # of 3782609 with the bypass. Seems a bit ambigous 2)What I,m trying then to determine is whether to by a rebuilt pump from someone like LI Corvette (if dating is not an issue) or who to send my pump to for a rebuild? Thanks for any help

Jim,

As per a previous, detailed in depth discussion on this board several months ago, the 3859326 water pump is NOT correct for any 63 Corvette. The original casting number for SOP 63 would have been a 3782609, which most likely changed to casting number 3839175 near the end of 63 or early 64 production. The 3859326 was a much later issue pump and may have been on mid to late 65's.

I'm not sure if the latest JG still shows the 326 as being correct for 63-64 but if it does, it should be corrected.

As Michael has stated the "609" is the correct water pump for all 1963's -
and Carlton still has not updated the JG
