    gasline shut off

Don't let the judges know of this message. I'm puting in a 3/8 gasline to my 283 and I want a shut off somewhere that I can turn off the gas for theft insurance as well as other reasons. The problem is that I can't locate a valve in any of my local parts stores. Any ideas out there?

Try a speed shop or catalog. They are common on race cars. I believe that Earl's and Moroso make them. Try Behrent's Performance Center in Florida N.Y ((914)651-7389). I'm pretty sure they carry them.

There are several means to do a vavle. Are you using rubber hose or steel tubing? We use valves for either in the refinery from industrial supply houses. Other source is speed shops as race cars have shutoff valves.

You might also check high performance boating supply places. Sorry I don't know the names of the ones my husband gets boat parts from off the top of my head, and Greg isn't available to ask at the moment. Most offshore race boats have fuel cutoff switches, I know all of the ones we've owned do. Give a holler if you need me to dig up some names or web addys for you. ~Juliet

I tried looking through some hot rod parts catalogs for you, without success.

One possibility I can think of is a Jaguar electrically-operated part (actually, there are 2 parts, but you only need one of them) used to select the tank (in a dual-tank FI car) that fuel pump bypass fuel is to be returned to. They are likely available from Jaguar parts vendors, but will not be inexpensive ($120+):

          normally open: CAC3939

          normally closed: CAC3938

There's also an electrical supply "T" valve to route fuel from one or the other tank to the FI pump, but this would be a bit more complicated, since its not actually a shutoff but a switch, although I suppose one leg could be blocked off:
