    Re: Unbelievable

High quality hot rods are bringing big money these days. It doesn't matter if it started life as a '32 Ford or a '62 Corvette. Now line up all of those deep pockets that didn't get what they wanted at Scottsdale and this is what happens.

      Re: Unbelievable

All I can say about this 62 is WOW! I'm not into the hot rod scene of Corvettes but this one could win me over. From the pics it just looks like quality at every corner----but pics show a car in the best of lights.

This car makes me think that Chevrolet could have done a better job with a 50th anniversary. As a matter of fact Chevrolet could do a better job on everything.

After the rear end of the C-5, I didn't think Chevrolet could make one with a rear that ugly. Then came the C-6 and they really defined ugly!

      JR

Have a top quality rotisserie custom car built by a top quality shop and you will easily have 6 figures in the car..not counting what you paid for the car to start with.

I'm not sure that the price is REAL. Note that it hasn't yet met reserve. This could well be shill-bidding to try to set a false value.

JR, have you seen the "Farm Use" 61? With a paint job it could be right in there with the 62. ZR-1 donor used to built it.

              WOW is right,

If you look at that car the body has been widened.I was able to see how much it was widened by looking at the front end to see where the front bumpers line up with the front grill.

I dont know the builder or the owner of this car,but I tip my hat to them for there vision of doing this, and then the craftman who was able to execute the work.

I am building a 62 with a SR111 tube frame and the same color combos,

Its a real pleasure to see the work of a true craftman.

I wonder if it was built by the firm that is located in the North West. They specialize in doing that to `62s.

I met a guy at an engineering conference last year on the west coast that had a company called RESolutions. They are a spinoff of Boeing in St Louis and have reverse engineered 1962 Corvette bodies. They are building them and installing them on C5 chassis. If I remember correctly, you supply the C5 and $40K and you get a modern '62.

I had a powerpoint presentation that I will look for and post if I find it. The guys name is Ron Marsden. I have his phone number and e-mail so I think I will send him a message and ask him if this was there project.

There was a '57 in the Detroit Autorama that was widened and put on a C5 chassis. It looked odd where this '62 looks right on. I'll try to post a pic if Imagetation will alllow the link.

                      Re: Unbelievable

Unbelievable is right! This is just another example of the current trend in resto-rods. I find this trend disrurbing. Resto-rods are not restorations, they are manufactured orphans that appeal to a very small minority with M.M.T.B. Worse, yet is the fact that Corvette magazines are now featuring at least one of these "things" in every issue. Soon, the novice Corvette owner will think this is how a restored Corvette should look. What an abortion!

I can understand that some people might be attracted to this but I find it a shame if an original vintasge Vette is turned into such a car. If a kit-car would be used I could see the fun of it...

                            Re: with a resto-rod

I would think that his reserve is somewhere on the high side of $150 K. I am building a 59 and a 65 right now, and I know it would take at least that much to part with mine! You just can't imagine the ammount of work that goes into one of these! My Top Flight 60 was a walk in the park compared to the 59 that I am building now. As far as taking nice cars out of circulation, I do not think that that is happening for the most part. My car was nothing more than a pile of parts of several years vintage, that had been collecting dust in my shop for years. There is no way anyone in his right mind would have ever considered restoring it! I have seen the pics of Larry Savino's car when he picked it up, and it was just about as bad. If you have never been for a drive in one of these cars, you just can't truly appreciate it. They bring this much money, and more, and they are worth every dime of it! Guys, there are Corvettes that it makes sense to restore, and there are Hot Rods, they both are fun! Don't despair over the desecration of an old Corvette body as if it were some holy shrine, It is just a car, meant to be driven hard and enjoyed.

                            Regards, John McGraw
