Are the upper a arm shafts secured to the bolts that hold them to the frame with "tall nuts and lock washers" per the JM, as opposed to the large crimp nuts in '67?

Not 100% sure about this but I seem to remember mid or late 66 switching to the crimp style nuts that were used in 67. Maybe someone that has an original late 66 can verify?- Top

Re: ORIGINAL '66 UPPER "A ARM" ATTACHMENT
Ok, thanks Joe. I thought so but wasn't sure. I know the HD nut/lock washer was used at least through November but couldn't remember when it changed to the prev. torque style.- Top

Re: ORIGINAL '66 UPPER "A ARM" ATTACHMENT
Mike,
The lower a-arm shafts on my car are also attached in the rear with lock washers and nuts, like the upper a-arms. They appear to have never been removed. My car has a June(66) build date.- Top

Re: ORIGINAL '66 UPPER "A ARM" ATTACHMENT
Rob,
If they look original, then they probably are. I'm not 100% certain that either the upper or lower nuts changed to the prev torque style, or when it happened if it did, but I seem to remember the uppers changing late in the year. Hopefully, others with later production 66 cars will help sort this out.- Top

Were the crimp nuts not also associated with a coarse thread design for the pressed-in bolt from the frame, or did that change come later as a third iteration?Bill Clupper #618- Top

Bill----
For later 1966 and 1967 Corvettes, the Stover-type lock nuts were used with the 7/16"-20 (NF) bolts. For 1968-82, the bolts changed to 7/16"-14 (NC) and similar Stover-type lock nuts were used.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

'66 UPPER "A ARM" nuts for late build date
Rob,
The nuts on my July 20, '66 build date car are indeed the "tall" nuts, about 7/16" thick. Not the prevailing torque nuts, just the regular style (but tall) with a lock washer as per the TIM&JG.
