    60 window handle orientation

Is there a correct position for the window crank handle to be orientated?
This is getting silly, but why stop now.

Larry,I don't know if there was a position used at the factory, but I allways orient mine so that the handle is pointing forward with the window down. This aviods my knee constantly hitting the handle knob!

    Regards, John

      Larry...

I have it down that the knob handle (spear) is horizontal with the door and runs towards the door opening edge. (the AIM suggests it may be vertical) Interesting what other's will report...

          Re: 60 window handle orientation

When I was working as an inspector at the end of the final line I was instructed to inspect the orientation on the window handles. The instruction I received was the handle was to be at 6:00 with the window up.

I missed a couple and got verbally reamed for it. The operator on the line where to position the handle as where the repairmen so that it would pass inspection.

I was not told what the real reason was for this but my supervisor believed it was to hinder someone from trying to open the door from the outside by rolling down the handle someway. As far as I know it could have been that someone liked the way it looked when the window was down or even up.

Now what does this have to do with the 60? Well I have or will have the handle at 6:00 on both my 59 & my 60.

No, there wasn't anything in the A.I.M., and there was no Chevy spec for Corvette window crank orientation; put it where it works best for you. Fisher Body always had detailed specs for handle orientation for steel-bodied cars, but Chevy never published any.
