C2 Speaker- special for a/c cars?

Does anyone know if there is a special speaker for midyears with air conditioning? Rumor has it that there is a special shallow speaker to clear the air duct. The AIM does not have that listed. Can anyone shed some light on this? thanks in advance!

I think your AIM is more accurate than rumor. A different speaker is not part of C60. The center duct does not cause interference.

Brandon, I saw your car at JC's. The paint looks nice. Make sure you get the speaker grill in before you bolt the cluster up. That front left nut on the grill is just about impossible to get on otherwise. Don't ask me how I know that. Live and learn.

Search the archives under "C2 air car speaker". There is a post dated Dec 28,04 that will explain the difference in the speakers

I have a couple of good pictures of the difference. E-mail me if you want them. See the link-

            Speaker 7282500 is off a '64 Caddy

Where's the output transformer ? -- it shouldn't even work with a Corvette radio. This a 4" x 10" format, not the 4 x 9 Corvette size. All my radio parts books show # 7282256 as the correct Corvette speaker, from '63 thru '67 -- no mention of any special unit for C60 cars.

Agree w/Brandon that the center-feed ducts/hoses have no problem clearing the factory speaker.

Does someone have access to P&A 5B Radio Parts catalog to confirm from yet another source ?

Well then I have a different question. Does anyone have experience with speaker
upgrades for C2 air corvettes? I have seen upgrades advertised including a "stereo" unit with two speakers-made by Kenwood I think. Will it fit and
is it worth the trouble? Anyone?

                My copies of...

63, 64 and 65 Chevrolet Radio Service Shop Manuals give a full list of parts for the Corvette AM/FM radio in each year (as well as supporting installation components) and there's only ONE speaker called out. This agrees with Wayne's reading of the AIM books saying there was no distinction between A/C and non-A/C equipped cars.

Now, in Shark era various radio components DID change based on A/C, specifically the PN for the multiplexor unit on the optional AM/FM/Stereo system...
