56 carb gaskets

On a 56 dual 4 set up does the carb to intake manifold gasket have the two holes and the figure eight cut out or should it have the four holes like the intake? The gaskets I ordered have the openings like the 57 intake. The supplier said they would work but I am not sure so I thought I would ask here.

The original 1956 carb gasket had 4 holes. The gasket that you have should work ok, but, if it were me, I'd use the correct gasket. Dr. Rebuild, gasketeer extrodinaire, has virtually all of the correct original gaskets. I'll bet he's got this one, too.

Steve, Answer to our Q, they will work, Tech Seervice Bulletin # DR 270 ( Sept. 8, 1956) sugggest double gaskets under each carb. Starting with a four hole gasket cut out the center section,align the Cut from the centerline of each hole, The cut shap will fall out. Next, cut a1/4" strip between th two passenger side holes and also on the drivers side holes.This is so cnfusing, to type and explain send n me you phone # off line and I'll fax you (only you) copy.
