same thing happened in the 1980's

Whenever the stock market isn't doing much, collector cars BOOM! Once the stock market recovers, collector car prices fall. It all depends upon whether the crude oil prices will hold back the economy and the stock market.

I think the days of decent midyear drivers under $20k are about done.

Personally, I'd like to see the prices go through the roof like in the late '80's... then I'd finally put that "For Sale" sign on my '63 SWC.

            Re: mid-year prices!

Ive been to bloomington the last 2 yrs. now, ( St. Charles, Ill. ) and what you will find are garbage cars in the corrall, and really nice ones in the auction tent. But those auction cars have really high reserves. If you buy a project, the prices for parts and any resto shop costs will kill you. My advice: Buy the best finished correctly done Corvette you can afford, so when you finally decide to sell it, time will be on YOUR side, and maybe make some money !

              My thoughts...pictures promised!

....keep eyes peeled and watch for cars. I feel that the restoration is most of the fun! It's rewarding resurrecting something back to life. Dropping a car off at an over-priced Corvette specialty shop is no fun. Get your hands dirty! That's what I feel most of this Forum is about; meeting friends all over the country and getting grubby now and then. Here's the two 57's, 65 coupe, 69 Camaro, and others as I promised, waiting to be found!

                  Don't forget the 'Goldmine'...

Bloomington sets aside (or used to) an area called the 'Goldmine' for owners of cars with prior Gold Certification to show and sell separate from the auction. Sometimes you can find a good deal on an older restoration there....

                    Jack,
The GoldMine is not just for Gold Certified cars but for all Corvettes for sale.
