I was going through my neighbors garage again tonight digging through his mountain of corvette parts and came across a BB head and can't figure out what its for. The number look like 3984281 and the date is I 10 9. So I figure its off of a Sept 10 69 casting, any thoughts? This guy has been a gem, offering parts to people in the club so I'd like to help. Any thoughts?
I think that it's GM #3964291. This is a rectangular port, cast iron, SHP big block head used for 1970 Camaros and Chevelles (no Corvettes for 1970 used the rectangular port head). It was used on L-78 (402 cid for 1970) and LS-6 (454 cid Chevelle).
This would be a very desirable head for the Camaro and Chevelle guys/gals. It could be used for 1969 and 1971 Corvette SHP applications, too, but it would not be "correct".
