Shims...... body to frame on C2

How do you know how many shims go where on the body if you have purchased a car that was taken apart before you bought it?

This is a comon topic and if you search the archives you will find lots of good info. There was just some discussion last month or maybe it was two months ago. Basically in a nutshell, with the chassis complete with engine and resting on the tires, start with three or four shims in all locations, set the body down and check to see if any mounts are high or low and adjust shims as required.

Scott, why should the engine and trannie be installed before the body is put on the frame? Del

        Del -

A couple of reasons - the weight of the engine/transmission causes some frame deflection, and you can run the engine in the frame before dropping the body; much easier to deal with any problems without the body in the way.

John Thanks, would you still drop the engine/trannie if one is piecing together a "whole" front clip? Del

I would think so due to the flex in the frame, I know I am currently doing it that way.
