Re original 1966 L72 427/425 Braided Ignition Wire Ground -To - Heat Shield - from the factory - did the ground clip attach to the side of the shield or pushed on to the curved front (toward the block). My investigation has been limited to Noland Adams and vintage road test photos. From those observations I believe it is on the side. Drivers is clipped on the forward side of the shield while the passenger side is aft. Please let me know if you have more authative guidence. Thanks

Re: 66 L72 427/425 Ignition Wire Ground To Heat Sh
Peter, if by "curved front" you mean the end of the shield (rather than the side), many of us believe the clips were designed to go onto the end of the shields. If you look at the shape of the clip, it closely matches the contour of the rolled end of the shields. My opinion is that because they can be pretty tough to snap onto the end, many folks put them on the sides. I put them on the sides for years until I compared the rolled shape of the clip with the rolled shape of the end of the shield. Perhaps guys on the line even had trouble snapping them onto the ends and sometimes put them on the sides. The crude illustration in the AIM is not much help, but one of them (section U69 page A10) sort of looks like it is going onto the end. My opinion is based mostly on the shape of the clip and the shield. Hope this helps.- Top

Re: 66 L72 427/425 Ignition Wire Ground To Heat Sh
Sorry guys, but the clip design was a standard "edge metal clip" that was built from existing tooling way prior to the 396 heat shield being developed. The size of the radius re the heat shield radius is totally accidental, and they are designed not to go over the roll, but over the outside edge. The barb on the clip is to provide the ground, as well as retain the clip in place. Typical examples of this were used for many years to hold wiring in place along areas such as fender lips and rad core suports in the engine compartment. usuall in a configuration that would be part of a plastic clip that was taped onto the wiring harness.Bill Clupper #618- Top
