    67 BB Chassis Markings.

We are about to stencil the chassis markings on 67 BB Coupe 15629. We know for sure that 67 BB Coupe 7371 built Jan.5 /67, had the following markings:

    3900200-33

303196-12-28 The question we have is: Is the 12-28 the "frame pull date"? or, is the "frame pull date" not shown above but is rather written in chalk, not stenciled, a little further to the front of the frame on the passenger side? And if so, what would an appropriate " frame pull date" be for car 15629, built April 6/67? Thanks.

    Re: 67 BB Chassis Markings.

And why didn't the earlier car have the GC marking on the end of the stenciled numbers? We are going to try to get this done by Friday, Can anyone advise or refer me to someone I could call. Thanks.

      Re: 67 BB Chassis Markings.

      Rick,

The information below comes from the Joseph A. Tripoli book "Corvette Chassis Restoration Guide 1953 through 1972" pages 14 and 20.

"Every frame was stenciled after it was fabricated at the manufacturer.".........."The date, which also appears as part of the complete number stencil in the 1953-1962 and 1967-1972 frames is a little more difficult to figure out. The 1963-1966 stencil was not dated. The date was handwritten on the rail with normally white lumber crayon. Serial number to frame stencil date number on original unrestored cars indicate the stencil date precedes the assembly date by approximately two weeks to two months in the 1953-1962 frames and two weeks in the 1967- 1972 frames."

Additionally, there are a few charts for serial number and frame stencil date correlation. Page 20 defines the "GC" as an abbreviation for Granite City, Illinois, plant site of the frame manufacturer, but does not mention why it didn't appear in the frame stencil for previous years. If you can reference that book Rick, then there is some additional information that may or may not pertain to what you ask. But understanding whether or not you need it for your own case I would rather leave to you.

You may want to call somewhere like Quanta Products that have frame stencils and kits available, for any information they may have on hand. Hope this has helped. TBarr #24014
