Late 68 headlight door measurements? Help please.

If there are people with late 68 cars out there (built after May, June with the larger headlight doors) could you please measure the width and length of your headlight doors. Trying to help a friend who has a late 68 car with large door openings. Measure straight up and down and straight across the door lid. Thanks in advance, Terry

I am not concerned about the measurement as long as I know how it was done. I have been measuring them straight front to back and side to side. The side to side measurement will be parallel to the front and back edge of the door. The front to back measurement will not be parallel to the door, but I think there will be less guess work involved. The doors are an irregular shaped rectangle. Thanks, Terry

July built 68 coupe. side to side at mid-point parallel to top edge is 15 1/8.

the front to back is 9 13/16 ...as close as I can tell.

If it is convinient for you...do you know or can you tell if you have the pointed headlight capsule mounts or the rounded style mounts? You should be able to see them from looking up under the doors with the headlights up.

The car is in my hangar at the airport. I was out there today to get the measurement. I should be out there again in a couple of days and I will look. Is it obvious what I am looking at?

Yes and No, how's that for an answer. Each headlight capsule sits on 3 posts, two of the posts have adjusters on them and the other has a spring. The posts are either pointed or rounded. The pointed one's actualy form a concave dish that the capsule sits in. The rounded one's are just that, small post with rounded ends on them. They are famous for poking holes through the back of the headlight capsule and rendering it non-adjustable. That is how I found mine and a few others that I have seen.

You should be able to see one or two of the posts from the underside. You would need a flash light and look up under the front valence panel. But that requires getting pretty low to the ground. If you can't make them out, no big deal. I suspect they will be pointed. Thanks, Terry

The late 1968 headlight doors are the same as all 1969-82. So, if you have access to any 69-82, just measure those doors and you'll know what the measurements are for the late 1968.
