Hello again to the many knowledgeable and kind souls willing to help a novice vintage corvette owner such as myself. My blue convertible 327/350 had a bothersome clutch chatter. My local mechanic, who is good and honest, thought it was the throw-out bearing. I purchased an aftermarket clutch kit and had it installed, $500 parts and labor. My clutch chatter is worse. He now says maybe the flywheel needs turned. What does this esteemed body think obout that?

Re: 1966 clutch chatter
I think your mechanic should have looked at the flywheel when he put the clutch in. So, what are we looking at here? Another $300-$350 in labor to surface the flywheel?
Have him check the obvious like sheared/worn motor mounts, throwout bearing binding on the transmission input shaft bearing housing and loose or worn transmission mount.
If you used a competition type clutch for a replacement that has either really stiff hub springs or none at all, that can cause it too.- Top

Re: 1966 clutch chatter
Resurfacing the flywheel and balancing the pressure plate and flywheel as a unit made a fairly severe chatter/vibration almost go away. It is still there but barely noticeable and I think from previous post I have read that there will almost always be a slight amount of vibration. I can easily live with what I have now.
