I recently had the opportunity to search for a 67 Corvette that I have the original engine for. The search company was able to locate the last know registered owner of the vehicle. Apparently they can access every state data base except Ca. They have a website at USTRACE.COM. If you're looking for your old Corvette or are trying to match a block with a car you may have success with this method of searching. If anyone uses this service please post a note letting us know how you made out. Mark

Re: Vehicle Search by VIN
I'm curious. Do they have, or can they give previous owner information, OR just info on the current owner, IF the car is presently titled? Chuck1963 Corvette Conv. 327/360 NCRS Top Flight

Re: Vehicle Search by VIN
Chuck, Good question. I believe the most likely "hit" will be for a car that is currently registered. However I would guess that any state computer that still had the VIN listed in their system might give a positive response which could help in tracking down prior owners. That was the situation with my 67 however I was already aware of this prior owner so it really didn't help me. Perhaps a call to USTRACE would give you more info. I spoke to a person named Pat. On a 66 that I own I was able to use the title search method to locate the original dealer. However, you have to somewhat lucky in that the car has to come from a state that has title records and of course the dealer still has to be in business. Let us know if you have any success.
