C1 Rear End

I have an early 61. I'm trying to determine what my rear end housing and gear is out of. This used to be a drag car and the housing is not identified. It does have multiple welds and patches from where the dumb@*$ tried to repair. This is the reason I'm looking for another. It probably isn't the original anyway.

The differential number is H137 3725899. I believe this was built Aug. 13, 1957.
So I'm assuming ( I know) it could have been out of a 56/57 chevy?? I haven't checked the gear ratio.

Anyhoot, I am trying to determine what I should look for as a replacement housing and gear?? The car doesn't have the original engine so my options are open. I'm currently running a 283 4 barrel and 4 speed trans.

I'm surprised to see that center section casting on a former "drag car". It's for an open (non-posi) rear end. That center section was used in both Corvettes and passenger cars from 1957 at least until 1963, maybe beyond. Looks like you've got the date pegged.
