    64 Gas lid emblem

I am looking to replace the lid emblem on my 64, but I am unsure of the best way to remove the old emblem and instll the new one (haven't ordered it yet). My lid assembly chrome is in very good condition so it seems like a waste to replace the assembly when the emeblem is faded and cracked...

I appears that there are posts cast onto the lid assembly that are mashed to hold the latch assembly backing plate onto the lid assembly...this then holds the emblem in place.

Has anyone done this with success...

The ends of those tubular studs were "spin-riveted" over, in exactly the same manner as those that hold the glove box door to the inner panel; if you cut off the spun-over ends to remove the backing plate, then carefully tap the remaining portion and use tiny screws to put it back together, then you have to make the screw heads look like the spun-over rivets, just like the "kits" for the glove box door or the repair will be quite obvious.

      Thanks!

are these "kits" available from retailers? I couldn't see them identified specifically...
