In all Chevrolet V-8 engines the rear seal is contained within the rear bearing cap and block. What needs to be sealed is the INTERFACE between the cap and the block in the vicinity of the seal ENDS on 2 piece seal engines.
What you are referring to as far as sealer is concerned is what's called an 'anaerobic sealer'. You can use an anaerobic sealer for this sealing chore, but it's not required or specified by GM. The main thing is that the sealer used has to be very oil resistant.
