    C2 Carburetor

I just installed a Holley 3810 OEM Muscle Car replacement carb on my '67 327/350 convertible. The hot start is a bit difficult with a mild smell of gas. I suspect percolation. I have spoken to my mechanic who has numerous suggestions:
    1. leave it and just put your foot to the floor when starting-highly unlikely I would get stranded- is this true ?
    2. lower the float level and risk losing performance- the carb won't deliver enough fuel under heavy acceleration
    3. install a heat shield gasket between the intake and card
    4. experiment with different fuels- CAM2 is best

Any opinions ? I sort of like #2 but really wonder if I will lose performance.

    Thanks

Block off the heat crossover in the intake manifold, set the float to the factory spec and do not overlook the differences between gasoline brands. I drive an FI car and the hot start difference between fuel suppliers is amazing.

      Mike,

I would first try the float adjustment and then different fuel as Bill has suggested. Dropping the float enough to fix the boil over if that is your problem, shouldn't compromise the performance.

I had a loose inlet seat which would allow fuel to overfill the bowl at idle. It also would flood after shutdown due to residual fuel pump pressure. Might be worth checking

You should check for leakage from the rear metering plate. You will see fuel run out on the rear butterflies. It is the most common problem and none of the other suggestions will fix it.
