What was the proper treatment in 1960 for those Corvettes delivered without courtesy lights, wihtout heater, etc.? Were the wires in the harness just left to dangle? wrapped in electric tape? Or?????

Re: 1960 Wiring Harness
I believe all straight axles had the courtesy light itself, and was operated by twisting the headlight switch all the way counter-clockwise. The switches in the door posts were not always there. At least thats what I found on my '58. The wires to the door switches were in the wiring harness, insulated with black friction tape and tucked into the void in the door posts. As far as the heater delete is concerned, the fuse was not installed in the fuseblock but the wire to the center console to feed the switch was in the harness. The wire from the switch to the heater motor was part of the motor assembly.- Top

Re: 1960 Wiring Harness
Mark's info would be correct in that there was only one wiring harness built, but Fuses were installed at the car plant in '60, so a no-heater car would not call out the fuses on the broadcast sheet, and unused wires would simply be taped out of the way- Top

Re: 1960 Wiring Harness
I have a 1959 which was not equiped with the courtesy light. The switches and holes for the swithches are not present in the door jambs, and the hole where the courtesy light unit installs under the dash is covered with a stamped steel blockoff plate - painted the interior color

Re: 1960 Wiring Harness
Loren: Clupper is correct on taping off. My '60 did not have the courtesy light option. The original headlight switch did, however, operate a courtesy light that was in the proper place. Ms. Monk, the original owner, claimed it worked that way from the factory even though there were no door switches. Dennis Clark and I talked about the set up but for years could not confirm if possibly sometime in 1960 that the factory started installing a light even if the courtesy switches were not ordered. Note also that that my'60 had no parking brake alarm option and the wires were simply taped off and left hanging.- Top

Re: 1960 Wiring Harness
Dwight: What is the # of your car? #2272 has a block-off plate for the courtesy light position - maybe we're in the process of discovering one of the dreaded "running changes", a Chevy decision that says "Give them the dammed light even if they didn't order it.".- Top

Re: 1960 Wiring Harness
Loren: I think you're correct. My VIN # is 8734... rather late in the year. Since it has what I believe was the original headlight switch, all anyone had to do was mount the courtesy light. There is always the possibility that the dealer installed the light... maybe at the request of the owner. My '60 was not an ordered car. It was on Rosenthal's lot in Northern Virginia when Ms. Monk saw it. Who knows. Please note its easier to contact me at dfarmer@hrpdc.org. I usually don't get online at home. Had enough at work!!- Top
