    GM #3989354 Valve Springs

Well, eBay insanity strikes again. I saw a set of 16 of these valve springs sell on eBay for $281.00 (eBay #4543936093). These valve springs are a big block valve spring which were never used for any PRODUCTION application, at all. They were a SERVICE-only, high performance valve spring originally released for use with SERVICE-only camshaft GM #3994094. So, by definition, no one could need these springs for a "100% authentic, original restoration".

But, let's assume that the buyer knew that and wanted the springs for other reasons. Well, in that case, all he had to do was to go down and order them from his GM dealer---they're still available from GM for a list price of $9.93/each. So, 16 of them would run $158.88 and that would be at GM LIST price. Better yet, he could have ordered a complete SET of these exact valve springs under GM #12371062. That SET carries a current GM LIST price of $84.21 and it wouldn't be too difficult to get that set for about 65 bucks. As you can see and contrary to what the seller said, these valve springs are not what you'd call "rare", at all.

With folks like this around, I need to go into the parts business (but, I never will, of course). It just ain't my thing.

    Re: GM #3989354 Valve Springs

    Joe,

Just because you know sooooo much more than I do ,I see no reason why you should make fun of my purchases and publicly humiliate me! At the time, I felt that those springs were worth every penny ,and I needed them for the extra "Judging Points"
OK , So I screwed up ! That still doesn't give you the right to tell the entire NCRS community that I blew it! I mean You don't see me telling everyone what you paid for every part you ........................
Hey, wait a minute !!.... I thought that those E-Bay puchases were confidential ............How did you even know it was me ?

Oh oh !!!!!!!!!! Upon reading your post again ,I see that my name wasn't even mentioned ....................
    I guess I blew it again !

Lets just forget I said anything !

Pretend I never even brought it up !

Man......... it sure was a nice day today.....Wasn't it ?

    Jim ....lol

        e-bay is fun to watch

A set of J56 style brake pads sold for about $280. They looked like aftermarket parts that can be bought from Vette Brakes web site for $100 - go figure! Have you also seen the Dill 627 valve stem caps for the bargain of $10 for a set of 5? They are still listed on the Eaton web site as a current production part and usually sell for about $3 to $5 per bag of 100. Heck, I bet they even charge extra for shipping and handling!

Re: e-bay is fun to watch

Its getting nuts out there. A restored (nicely done) RC15 radiator cap went for $00 the other day. WOW! An earlier one that needs restoration didn't sell for $9.99, so now that everyone saw the other one go big is bidding up over $37.00 for the one nobody wanted the other day.

                Kudos to this Forum !!!!

In all seriousness, while they call this forum a "tech discussion" ,I am sure that I am not the only one who has saved "Big money" by listening to the likes of Joe And Duke And the many others . .....Those guys who have not only told us what part we need ,but where to get it !!

Thanks to all those involved in creating , maintaining, and participating .I guess some of those Ebay auctions show where we might be without the benefit of this board !

Correction, the cap went for $300.00, not zero dollars.
