Well, eBay insanity strikes again. I saw a set of 16 of these valve springs sell on eBay for $281.00 (eBay #4543936093). These valve springs are a big block valve spring which were never used for any PRODUCTION application, at all. They were a SERVICE-only, high performance valve spring originally released for use with SERVICE-only camshaft GM #3994094. So, by definition, no one could need these springs for a "100% authentic, original restoration".
But, let's assume that the buyer knew that and wanted the springs for other reasons. Well, in that case, all he had to do was to go down and order them from his GM dealer---they're still available from GM for a list price of $9.93/each. So, 16 of them would run $158.88 and that would be at GM LIST price. Better yet, he could have ordered a complete SET of these exact valve springs under GM #12371062. That SET carries a current GM LIST price of $84.21 and it wouldn't be too difficult to get that set for about 65 bucks. As you can see and contrary to what the seller said, these valve springs are not what you'd call "rare", at all.
With folks like this around, I need to go into the parts business (but, I never will, of course). It just ain't my thing.
