    '72 LT-1 Rear Spring

    Hi All..

My rear spring has 5 leafs. The judging manual states that the standard should be a 9 leaf spring. Is this some sort of aftermarket spring on my car?

    Regards,

    Billy

Count the leaves carefully, it's easy to miss one or two. Basic rear spring was 9-leaves with HD suspension having 7-leaves....

Yes, your spring is an aftermarket spring

      Billy,

The end treamtent starting with the 2nd leaf is incorrect and there shouldn't be those metal bands holding the leaves together.

The original 9-leaf spring looked like this - the three top leaves are flat and upturned at the ends, and the bottom six leaves are cambered and upturned at the ends (except the bottom/main leaf is not upturned on the ends). The end corners of the main leaf are sheared at a 45* angle, and there are plastic H-section liners inbetween all leaves except between the bottom flat leaf and the top cambered leaf, and no clamps are used.

Thanks Guys for all of the information and John for the great picture. You have confirmed what I thought. I've had this car for a while but now that I have the judging manual it is a lot of fun going through everything and checking it according to the manual.

          Regards,
          Billy
