'79 bumper emblem attachment method

Before I do something stupid, is the rear Corvette emblem on the '79 rubber bumper just glued on like the side fender emblems or is it more permanently attached?

The front and sides pried off with care, but the rear doesn't want to budge.

If it is the same as a 75, and I think it is, each letter has a pin on thre back which goes into a barrel nut. The barrel nut is essentially a metal sleeve that presses into the plastic and squeezes on the pin. Bottom line is that they need to be carefully pried out. There is some risk of breakage, but like so many parts, they were designed for ease of assembly at the factory, not ease of restoration.

It comes off after you remove the nuts from the rear side. It's a tight fit, I did it a few years ago. Good luck.

I'm sure that I would offend a few ex-Chevy engineers if I made any comment on the logic of having the nose and two side emblems glue on even though you can reach the backside and making the rear emblem bolt on even though there is this huge bumper plate that covers that area completely.

Thanks, John, for the info. I guess I'll try to reach the nuts, and if I can't in a reasonable time, it will be masking time.
