    points and condenser part numbers

I ran across some points and condenser with GM part numbers 1154030 and 1154034. These don't line up with any Chevy number. Does anyone know what they are?

    Thanks.

    Mike----

I can find no record of those part numbers. They don't even look like they belong to any series of part numbers assigned to Delco-Remy. Are these Delco points and do they have a Delco part number in addition to these numbers?

One car they fit is Pontiac:

        Joe,
they are in a GM box, not a Delco box. The guy claims they fit almost everything GM so you know how accurate that is. Naturally, they don't match any Chevy number I have, or even close, and I can't find my inter-GM crossover lists right now.

            Mike----

If they fit those Pontiac applications, then they also fit Chevrolet and most other GM cars-----most GM points-type ignitions used, basically, the same ignition parts.

              Mike-----

Now I think that I've got this figured out. I think that these were ignition parts that were once part of a KIT and were never available seperately. These kits contained 6 or 8 individually boxed spark plugs, an individually boxed set of points, and an individually boxed condensor. They were packaged in a long box just like those that sets of AC Spark Plugs came in, but the box had GM markings and no AC Spark Plug or Deloc-Remy markings. In fact, I just checked and I have a couple of these KITS in my collection. The KITS that I have are GM #1154002, but I don't know what the numbers are on the individual packages within and I can't get to them right now. That's also why the numbers are not AC-Delco numbers. Even though the parts are AC-Delco parts, the KITS were released by the GM parts system. These are, therefore, GM part numbers from an obscure series that were once used and assigned to "GM Merchandising Division". I believe that this was once a GM Division that was set up to sell certain high volume parts at discounted prices through the GM Parts System. Generally, the Delco parts system serves that "role" for GM, but, I suppose, once-upon-a-time some genius thought up this alternate scheme. I don't think it "lived" very long. However, it may have evolved into what is today known as the "target" marketing system.

Very few of these kits were ever catalogued in any Corvette parts catalog, but they were catalogued in other model Chevrolet catalogs.

                Thanks, Joe,

I knew there was something more to the story on these.
