    C2 Interior Radio Panels

I just finished the new carpet installation in my 66 roadster. I laid the center shifter console in place and screwed it down. I tried to fit the radio panels in place between the eyebrow pads and the center console and the fit is very tight. I’m concerned about putting too much force on the eyebrow pad to squeeze the panel into the fit. Part of the problem could be due to the fact that the eyebrow pads were restored with new vinyl covers that are placed over the old covers, thus causing the padding to be thicker and reducing the clearance between the eyebrow pad and the console plate. Any body experience this problem?

I don't know anyone who 'restored' his dash by installing fresh eyebrow covers over the old originals! All I know of removed the worn out originals and installed the replacements directly to the underlying dash surface...

Dave, did you install the new covers over the original ones yourself? I'm going to be at that point in a couple of weeks and would like to hear any comments you have.

The Corvette America replacement pads or skins call for the new skin to be put over the old without removing the old skin. Supplier instructions were followed.

          Ah, skins!

Most of us don't mess around with 'skins' because they're prone to fitting poorly and 'bubbling' if you don't get the underlying adhesive dead nuts uniform. BUT, they are cheaper than removing the original pads, cleaning the underlying dash surface installing fresh repro pads and re-riveting the end tabs....

            Jack,

I had a professional install the skins. He's done this before. Even with his charge this was substantially cheaper than new dash pads.
