Re: scratches in side glass c2
If you can feel the scratches by running your finger nail over tham, they're probably too deep to completely remove. Eastwood and a couple of others make a glass scratch removal kit. It consists of an abrasive powder that you mix with water and a buffing wheel that you can attach to your drill. You need drill speed and pressure because glass is hard. Be prepared to work for a while.

Re: scratches in side glass c2
Darrell,
Check with several auto restoration shops and ask who they use for glass work, then go to several of the glass shops and get their thoughts. I considered having my windshield done but after talking to several glass shops , they convinced me to replace rather than repair a 67 windshield. Their concern was the distoration on a windshield which shouldn't be as big of an issue on side glass.

Re: scratches in side glass c2
Hi Darrell -
My winter project was to restore my glass. One of my original side windows had been hit with a DA sander and had long scratches caused by W/D sandpaper. I purchased the Eastwood kit, and had excellent results in restoring these areas (these were very fine scratches). However, a deeper scratch and some stone chips are there to stay.
The kit is a series of glass sanding pads, and a final glass buffing setup. The coarse sanding pad will really REMOVE GLASS very quickly causing visible distortion. Eye and face protection is a must. The hardest part was finding a power tool that runs at 2000 rpm - the recommended speed. I ended up setting my drill press for that speed and running the glass under that. Everything must be run wet to keep it from overheating.
This is one of those things you'll get better at the more you do it. I started by practicing on a couple of old junk windows. It is back breaking work and takes a very long time. But I'm very happy with my results.

Re: scratches in side glass c2
3M makes a 5 step glass refinishing product. 5 different disc's each one finer then the previous one. We had a tech session where we polished a door glass. It takes a while. If you can feel it with your finger nail it might be too deep.- Top
