I can't find it in the archives, and I apologize--some time back there was input on how to construct a wood "cradle" that would allow be to raise the engine without jacking against the oil pan and without attaching a hoist from above. Can anyone point me to that info, or repeat that? Thanks!

Re: Raising 62 engine for water pump change
i got a 4" by 6" by one foot long piece of soft yellow pine at the local sawmill, got a used pan out of the barn and my trusty Shihl farm boss chainsaw. carved a concavity in the pine to fit the convexity of the pan.do your cutting on the 6" wide side of the pine.don't let the st. chris medal make contact with the Stihl.mikie- Top

Re: Raising 62 engine for water pump change
Here's the one I use - 2x6 base, 1x6 sides; snugs up to the sides of the pan, supports the engine on the pan rail - notch is for the dipstick "bump". Side pieces are about an inch taller than the depth of the pan. Kent-Moore would NOT be jealous

Re: Raising 62 engine for water pump change
Mike, if you are only changing the water pump, you can remove the uooer bolts and insert a longer bolt with the head cut off to hold the engine in location with the top mount, then remove the remaining water pump bolts and slide the pump off the "headless" bolts. I've done it without ditsurbing the gasket between the mount and the block successfully.Bill Clupper #618- Top
