C2 half-shaft markings

Did 1967 half shafts have color-coded paint markings on them to assist in balancing? If so, what did each color indicate? Thanks!

BB half shafts had green paint marks... Don't know about small block

The markings had nothing to do with balancing- half shafts were not balanced.

I believe the markings differentiated SB from BB shafts. The BB shafts were shot peened, the SB were not.

Green paint!

The surface appearance of the peened/non peened shafts are very similar and can be difficult to tell apart even if you have both types to examine, hance the use of the paint stripe

Shot peening is the act of bombarding the material surface at high velocity with small metal beads, or 'shot', similar to sandblasting. This tends to redistribute the internal stress of the shaft material and more importantly puts the surface under a compressive load. A surface treated in this manner is much less likely to crack.
