    1971 Rally Wheel

I'm looking to strip the paint off my spare rally wheel and repaint it the correct argent silver color. Can anyone recommend the best way or product to use for stripping? I checked out quanta for the paint. They don't list it on their site but I did email them.....is there anyplace else I can look for the correct argent silver in a spray can?

Thanks in advance for any help

    Jerry-----

There are many soueces for the argent silver paint. The shades vary a little bit but the originals did, too. There was actually a pretty wide variation in the color of this paint as originally sprayed on the wheels. The only fairly well "documented" charcteristic was the very slight green "hue" seen mostly on wheels from the 68-70 period.

Quanta carries the plain argent silver and used to carry the "greenish hue" paint, too. However, they dropped the latter but still have the regular, as far as I know. Another source for the argent silver, both regular and "greenish hue", is OEM paints. They manufacture very high quality products and, as one would expect, they cost quite a bit more than "garden variety" paint.

Thanks Joe, Just an FYI for everyone, I just received an email back from Quanta stating they no longer carry wheel paint. They suggest trying Paragon or Corvette America.

        Jerry,

If you're looking to pick up Silver Argent without the green hue, then try Eastwood. Although I didn't see it listed in their new catalog, they have a paint kit at a reasonable price that includes both Silver Argent and Satin Black...3 cans of each were plenty to do 5 rims. I also picked up a couple cans of black self etching primer. I had the rims prepared at "America Dry Stippers" (CT), first they were baked and then media blasted. After cleaning them up with some Prep-ez, they were primed and painted. I received other recommendations...but I opted to do it once and to do it right. Good luck.
