Re: Rental vette on Mauii?
There are places all over Mauii where you can rent Vettes, Vipers, and other "exotic" cars. Didn't check the price, but I suspect you'll find it in line with other tourist attractions. There are a few places there that you could actually get up to 55-60 MPH for short distances.- Top

Re: Rental vette on Mauii?
There is a rental place just outside of LaHaina on the main highway going toward Kaanappali..Several years ago it was $150 per half day.
There are some nice vettes on Maui including a cascade green 57 some mid years etc..
You might try and contact the Maui Corvette club before you go!
The Chart house is one of many great eating places with a great sunset ocean view and great food.
Burgers in Paradise is fun and filling! BJ's has great pizza, great sandwiches and entertainment..second floor balcony on the main street in Lahaina.

Re: Rental vette on Mauii?
Old Lahaina Town is definitely a highlight, and Burgers in Paradise was good - yes! The fun drive was south from Wailea (sp?) along the coast all the way to hana, which takes you on roads the rental car companies tell you not to drive their cars on Lots of black beach, waterfalls etc. just south of hana. Then there is the road out of Hana heading around the north end of the island that would be excellent for driving a rental C6. Up country roads would be another good run with a C6. A great place to think about retiring to someday!- Top

Re: Rental vette on Mauii?
Been to Maui about ten times, rented a Ferrari from one of the numerous exotic rental car joints that populate Maui and Oahu one sunny day when I knew I would driving out to Hana with a pretty young blonde at my side. (I ended up marrying her). The "Road to Hana" is rather famous for being a long, twisty two lane road, which I judged perfect for the mountain of cash it took to rent the Ferrari (a 308, at the time "da kine" - ask a local what that means) for a day, I suspect a Corvette C6 will not be too far behind in the $$. If you are going to pay by the day for the privelege of having a great car out there, might as well plan out a day of full use - that was my thinking anyway. If you want I can ask my local pals for the names of the rental places, but you won't have too much trouble finding them while there, using the yellow pages - but I can understand wanting to reserve someting in advance. Another good use of your exotic car dollar would be to drive to the top of Haleakala (dormant volcano) for sunrise, you won't be alone but you won't regret it.

You might also consider a helicopter tour to REALLY see the parts of the island you can't see well from a car. I didn't care for the selection of standard flights in the brochure and called the Prez of Hawaii Helicopters to see if they could arrange something special for us (we had flown to Maui in 1995 and been married on the beach, and stayed for two weeks), and we chartered one for an entire day, including a caterer-packed champagne lunch served by the pilot when we landed in the park at the black sand beach at Hana. Got breathtaking views of everything on the island, made many landings to explore on foot in various places. When the pilot found out I had ten times the helicopter pilot hours he did, he asked me if I wanted to fly it; I said no thanks, it was nice to be able to observe the scenery from a helicopter for once without being shot at Went back five years later and did it all over again

Next time, John...
consider asking for a 3-place chopper, they ARE available. The little birds are primarily used for rounding up stray cattle, Etc. and they're MUCH more maneuverable than the bigger 'tourist' heilo's. You'll get to places in the rain forest that NOBODY else will take you to!- Top

Re: Next time, John...
Here is a C-5 for rent during our trip in Aug. 2003. It is on the west side of Maui, taken from the Sugar Cane Train Ride. Didn't stop to ask $.

Re: C5 time in Maui
Thanks for the input. I did find the "alohatoystore" and they are $300. And yes, I was thinking about the road to Hana. If I rent a vette I am sure going to get a good bang for my buck. I did not have the time to go to Hana Last November.
Your tips are great.

the road to Hana
The T-shirt says: "617 curves, 56 bridges, 52 miles, 3 hours."
ALL those bridges are ONE lane. Has to be one of the worlds great drives. Part of it is through the rain forest, and what does it do in the rain forest?Terry- Top

Re: On the road to Hana (a Bob Hope movie)
Sounds better every time I hear it. I really dont care about Hana, I want the fun of the road and the fun of getting through the rain forrest. The road to Hana sound like a Bob Hope/Bing Crosby movie to me (am I just old?). I thought I was the only one that was on this sight to late at night. Judging from the times of the last few posts, we need a life.
p.s. Gotta get the T-shirt.

Re: On the road to Hana (a Bob Hope movie)
you've got the right idea, it's the drive to Hana and back that is the fun part, for me it was sunny all the way, both ways, but you won't be getting out of second gear much, if ever (as you might know, there ain't much of anything unusual to actually see or do in Hana - but if you are adventurous, park and go explore the seven pools, making sure to walk / swim up river to each one !)65 MM Convertible, L76 (365 hp)- Top
