I have looked around for a registry for 396 cars to find out how many Number matching cars are actually still out there. The only place i have found is Mikes Corvette for all Big block vettes.
Any one have any idea's of others?
I am just curious of the numbers?
Great suggestion Mike!
I may just set up a registy for the 396. Keep you posted! I own one of 3 I know of in NW Arkansas. I am real interested in Numbers matching cars and their Vin # to identify if mine was the last one built. My Vin # is 194375S123442. 121 cars from the last car built.
A friend in NY has several. Not sure how many. He has one that has been purported to be the "LAST 396" but as others pointed out here a while back, there were a few known after that one. It's not clear if any of the later ones still exist, or not. I'll try to get the VIN of that one, or maybe somebody here already knows the answer regarding where yours fits in sequence.

I have a lot of 396 cars on file from years ago and will send all the info as soon as I retrieve it from Illinois, if interested. I do remember the VIN from one car that I had tho. The 396 car that David Burroughs restored and used for the book, "Corvette Restoration State of the Art". 194675S114971. I have all the other info from the car also, somewhere. Good luck with your project.
I have been collecting 396 vin #s & option info for about 25 years .I have about 265 cars on my list. No idea how mane have original engines.I have 5 cars built after yours. Bill
A Friend of mine here in Omaha found an 32k mile, unrestored, numbers matching 396 convertible in a barn/airplane hanger out in rural SW Iowa 2 years ago.
Bill Williamson, this is John Osterholms car. I can't remember what VIN it is but I think it is a July 1965 built car with a VIN in 22k range. Do you remember what the number was that John sent you?
however it's original engine block is somewhere in Michigan. At least that's what the investigation has turned up so far (thanks to Loren for the initial lead).
To say the least any information would be greatly appreciated.
