on my LS-5 pump I could not find a long casting # just the GM 8T an a date code on the other side.

The seven digit raised casting number is BARELY VISIBLE, as it is ALMOST completely hidden by the pulley that is mounted to the waterpump, it is located on the same side as your GM 8T, just inboard of the outside edge of the waterpump pulley.

on mine the pulley covers all of that # it is so close I dont know how you would see it with out taking the pulley off

Joe's dead nuts on! That's why the policy on early Shark cars is to PROHIBIT judges from attempting verify water pump casting number/casting date.

I suppose it might be possible to get behind the pulley with a flexible illuminated viewing tool (borescope, labroscope), but where does the foolishness end! My hat's off to early Shark National Team Leaders who wrote the policy of preventing such foolish attempts in judging heroism...
