    1965 Steel wheels

Are the wheels that were installed during assembly dated or marked in any way that would date them? And if they were marked or dated what is the code?

Thanks for any info on the questions

    Hi Dwight,

Yes, all C2 wheels are date stamped. The date stamp will appear as a 2 digit number for the year. Because the model year production actually started around Aug of the previous year, a wheel originally installed on a 65 would have a "64" (early 65) or a "65" (late 65) and the month of manufacture during any given year will be a single digit. "1" = Jan, "2" = Feb, "3"= Mar, etc... The location of the date stamp is on the inside of wheel rim next to the wheel size. The correct wheel size in this case is "15 x 5 1/2 JK". All stampings are usually within a few inches either side of the valve core hole.

Date codes on wheels are NOT judged however as the stampings are impossible to see when the tire is mounted.

          Tracy

Did you see the posting (in past month) about the e-bay wheel that looked like a 65-66 wheel (no bumps), but was riveted?

I wonder what the story was? It sold for over $80, as I recall.

            Hi Tom,

Yes I did see that post and followed the link to the auction picture. Im curious myself. That was really an odd ball.

I think some else posted that Colvin's book listed this style of wheel for some HiPo 65 Chevelles.

It may have been a very rare piece and a steal at that price.

              Tracy and Tom,

I have four of this type wheel on my 63. If this is the same wheel your talking about it is 15 x 5 1/2" with no bumps around the center and there are rivets not welds in the back. I was told it is the service replacement for the 63/66 original wheel.
