    For 2000 miles a year change the oil once per year. If you store it during winter, change it just prior to winter storage. If you drive it year round, change it after the high driving season ends, which would probably be sometime in the fall.

    Good crankcase ventilation and avoiding short trips will minimize the risk and effects of condensation, and having fresh oil in the crankcase during winter storage will mean there is no acid to to possibly work away at the engine internals.

    Also keep in mind that the additives in motor oil are designed to neutralize certain contaminates and prevent corrosion damage, just like antifreeze, and CI-4 oils have more of these anti-corrosion additives than modern oils designed for spark igntion engines, which is a primarly reason why I recommend them. Diesel engine environments are much more corrosive because diesel fuel has more sulfur than gasoline.

    For typical vintage Corvette use, corrosion is probably more likely to deteriorte the engine over the next 30 years than wear from operation, which is why you want to use a reasonable oil change interval and use an oil that will provide maximum corrosion protection.

      I am GUILTY in the first degree of being tardy in my oil change intervals, because I hate to "waste" any fluid which I consider to be clean. I currently have motor oil in my crankcase for four years, with less than 1000 miles on it.
      To answer your question, and it is an easy one, if you consistently accumulate mileage at the rate of 2000 miles/year, then you should look for a grade that is fairly consistent with the GM "recommendation", and buy it "on sale". Do not spend the extra money on synthetics. If you are talking about a 1968 engine, then Duke Williams' CI-4 recommendation makes very, very good sense. Change both the oil and filter at 12 month intervals, preferrably just before you store your car for the winter, if you do so.

          I believe the synthetic motor oils in theory may have better wear protection in engines being forced to perform. Take care, Terry
