    '72 LT-1 Thermostat Housing #

I'm going back with the original intake and Holley for my '72 LT-1, but don't have the original thermostat housing. Anyone know the GM part # for this so I can start looking for one? Thanks!

    Chris-----

The part you seek was GM #3877660. There are several different configurations of this housing, though. The correct style for your application has the casting "depressions" in the area on the flange adjacent to the bolt holes. It also has the part number in raised numerals on the neck portion, although I believe that some with the part number on the flange may also have been used (these are harder to find, anyway).

One word of caution, though: I believe there was another thermostat housing of a different part number used for small blocks around the 1971-73 period. Its configuration is identical to the 3877660 but it has a different part number. I've forgotten the part number but I believe that it was a "39" series, 7 digit number. It was never available in SERVICE, but I think that it was found on some original early 70s small blocks as installed in PRODUCTION. I don't know if it's accepted for judging, or not.

You can usually find a "good crop" of these 3877660 necks in self-serve wrecking yards. They were used on a whole lot of Chevrolet engines from 1966 to about 1973. Some may suffer from corrosion on the neck or the flange. However, I've found some perfect examples. Paragon and their dealers also offers a very good reproduction of this piece for about 40 bucks.
