1967 tires for judging
Need some clarification.I took my 1967 corvette through the NCRS and BLOOMINGTON process, from 1995 to 1998.I had COKER FIRESTONE bias ply tires on the car.I received the usual deductions for using reproduction tires. Now a friend of mine tells me that the NCRS is not accepting FIRESTONE as a supplier of tires for 1967.I am considering going to an NCRS show this year.Is this true or is he just misinformed. If it is a fact what brand of tires do they accept. Thanks for any help.Tags: None- Top

Louis:
As far as I know, the original Firestone Deluxe Champion whitewall is still being reproduced, and accepted for judging. If your car has redlines, then the Firestones were originally branded "Super Sports", a slightly wider tire, which is not being reproduced. The reproduction Firestone goldlines/redlines are branded "Deluxe Champion" which is the appropriate brand for the black/whitewalls. This is why Goodyear Power Cushion is the only way to go for gold/redlines. These are reproduced correctly by Kelsey Tire.
I have not heard that Firestone whitewalls are inappropriate. Why not contact Keith Biggers, the Team Leader, and tell us what he says.

Re: 1967 tires for judging
Just a note to clarify your Firestone tire purchase. Firestone Deluxe Champion white sidewall tires came in two versions in 1967. The first design had ribs down the sidewall(same as the 5/8 WSW in 1966). The second design had no ribs on the sidewall. The repro Deluxes are second design, and should be judged incorrect on an early 1967. If you have a Corvette delivered before mid December 1966 you will surely have first design Fiirestones tires. Firestones WERE delivered on 1967 Corvettes. My 67 #4875 Duntoved in 1992 had a first design tire WSW that had never been out of the tub, complete with green preservative and inspection tags. The tire is now in the warm hands of NCRS member Gino Burelli and he would be happy to email you a photo. BTW, the tire sits on a ralley wheel with original unmarred paint. Hope this helps! BS- Top

Re: BS, You sure that isn't a recap you've got...?
in 1993, the dipstick would have given no deductions for bridgestones or kelly/springfield tires. his senility is such that today, he'd pass Hoosiers. course, yer eyes are probably gettin as clouded as the dipsticks.mine on the other hand, are that of the 39 year old i am. mike- Top
