    I cant hear the stones

I would like all mid-year owners to to help me with the sound of the origional stereo on mid-years! I would like to keep the original installed and functioning but add a stereo to the glove box. The question is where do I put the stereo speakers in the front? The wires require no modifications and the box of speakers fits nice in the rear. Any stereo install tips would be appricated... especially about front speaker installations!

    thanks in advance

    Re: No Satisfaction?

    jay,

Way back when, in the first used 69 I had, I used two speakers in the rear storage area on a covered board, one speaker at each end. It laid at about a 45 degree angle against the rear wall. They were easy to wire, easy to get to, and easy to remove if I needed the space. They were about as out of the way as they could get and had just enough room not be covered up by the top when it was down. Except under the roughest of driving, the magnets were just heavy enough to keep the board unit in place. I had also made the board long enough to fit tightly between the inner fender "humps". I'm sure you could make something more durable and enclosed now but utilize the same space. The only problem was the true quality of stereo wasn't good from that location. But you could definitely hear the music.

I installed an aftermarket tape deck under the dash on the passenger's side of the console. I have seen those in many other places though also, upright between the seat and console, even flat and loose in the rear storage area with the speakers. TBarr #24014

I've added the Sony CD player/tuner in the storage compartment in the rear. This unit has a wired remote that sits on the console (I mounted it on a magnet to hold it in place). The remote relocates under the now-hinged replacement storage compartment when not needed (keeps it out of sight). In the front, I installed two speakers in the standard opening. In the rear, I've got two 4 inch Pioneers mounted on the wheel humps. There was a really good thread on this subject recently on the Corvetteforum.com discussion under C1-C2s. many folks wrote in with their ideas - some quite ingenious. Email me if you'd like more information.

      Gotta have good sounds!

      Good luck in your efforts!

Hello Jay. I have a 66 that I taken through all of the iterations involved in hearing music in a roadster at high speed: large rear speakers with 300 watt booster, speakers behind the top action covers, high powered stereos, etcetera. My roadster has air, so underdash speakers are out. What really works is speakers in headrests. If your car has headrests, make a replacement set with speakers. If not, make up slip on headrests. My current setup is 60watt cassette in place of original radio playing to headrests (with a cut off switch for my wifes headrest) as "front speakers", two 150watt speakers behind the top action shields powered through 300watt reverb controlled as "rear speakers". Works for me - Dave

I have a 63 Roadster. I just installed a stereo pair of speakers, which fit in the single speaker opening in the center of the dash. They sell these speakers in ZIP, Corvette Central, etc. I also have a pair in the rear on each side of the rear compatment, (where the the jack goes. The whole setup sounds pretty good. Good Luck
